Israel Trip Fall 2016 – Day 11 Shalom House with Helping Hands Coalition

This man’s name is Yeshua.  He agreed to let me finish my sketch, which became a gift for him.

The March of Life House was full of activity as we planned to help with a special holiday luncheon with nearby Holocaust Survivors.  The event was sponsored by Helping Hands Coalition, at their Shalom House.

Guests arrived chatting, with smiles and laughter, happy to see one another and catch up on each others’ grandchildren and politics, together at a great table of special foods.  There were two interpreters: March of Life House’s Petra speaks German, Russian, and English, with a bit of Hebrew and others spoke either Hebrew, Russian, or English well enough to help.  The rest of us mostly used signs with our hands and facial expressions to make general statements. We had traditional Hebrew (and a little Yiddish) music, guitar by Susan, with the guests smiling and singing along.

Rozalie was able to do a bit of filming,  including a couple of interview segments for the TV show. She got acquainted with the Shalom House staff, and learned about their project of helping and blessing Holocaust Survivors (perhaps another opportunity for a tour including volunteers for their work?)

The event ended with hugs, well wishes, and hopes to see each other again soon.
