“Shanah Tovah!” and “Happy New Year!” were heard at The March of Life House on the second day of Rosh Hashanah. Festivities continued with a group of 16 Russian Holocaust survivors enjoying one another and the volunteers who love them. Lesly, Petra, the March of Life guests, and volunteers from the Israeli government joined together to serve the guests.
After the delicious food, we moved out to the back deck for presentations by the March of Life team. Special music included “Avinu Malkeinu” and “Am Yisrael Chai!” by me, with guitar. Then, Rozalie shared her history of participation with the March of Life and the March of Remembrance, as well as her personal history of family lost in the Holocaust. The crowd paid close attention and responded with words of comfort and encouragement.
I painted about 20 of these little holiday messages on the curled, fallen pieces of bark from the Eucalyptus trees….we used them as gifts, mostly for the Holocaust survivors. Such fun!
We ended with Yiddish songs, including “Tumbalalaika.”
