A day full of flying!
Houston to Istanbul,
Istanbul to Tel Aviv…
Sam sat with us on the flight from Houston to Istanbul.
Born in Syria, he lives in Turkey where he is a surgeon. His wife and children live in Texas where he hopes to relocate his practice.
Sam loves the arts and listened to Rozalie’s spiritual experiences with interest, accepting her invitation to Shabbat dinner when he gets settled in Houston. We gave him the little portraits and I sang to him ‘Another Day’ with guitar, in the airport. He bought us Turkish coffee and sat with us a while, talking about our children & their dreams, and possible life as a doctor in USA. He was noticeably touched when viewing Rachel’s dances on You Tube. He said his 11 year old daughter would like to dance like that, as she loves gymnastics.
I had some fun during our next flight, sketching our new friend, Tarek.
On the plane from Istanbul to Tel Aviv, Tarek was listening to Rozalie, his back to me. He has lived in Verona all his life, visiting an uncle in Jordan. He is studying architecture and plans to see some buildings in Israel as part of his studies.
Finally we descended over a glorious show of lights, into Tel Aviv, Israel!
We spent our first night at the lovely Hotel Gilgal.
