“If then the light within you is darkness…”
The eye is the lamp of the body. If your vision is clear, your whole body will be full of light. But if your vision is poor, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness! Matthew 6:22-23
There are several idioms in the Scripture above. “The eye is the lamp of the body” indicates how generous or selfish a person is. If one’s “eye is clear or good” then his inner core is generous, sharing the love of His Creator with those he or she encounters in their daily lives but if their “eye or vision is poor” he is full of darkness. He is evil, selfish and lives his life exalting himself and hurting or extorting others in the process.
But a more curious remark is what Yeshua describes as someone’s “light within them being darkness.” How can light be described as dark?
We know that Satan masquerades himself as an angel of light. Much of Satan’s ploys are anchored in deception. How disturbing is it when one realizes they have been made to believe something only to come to the realization they have been lied to, betrayed, manipulated or cheated?
This kind of darkness is often hard to detect, and it is common that even the most discerning of souls don’t see this evil coming. Those whose light is darkness will say the right thing, involve themselves in helping others, find good causes and move up the ladders into leadership, fame and riches. They are often admired, and everyone wants to be their friend. But these really “nice people” are clever. They end up leading good people astray and taking advantage of circumstances to their benefit. They plan and scheme and all the while operate on an agenda of ungodliness.
This is what Yeshua warns us of in this last generation. The greatest threat to the body of Christ will be deception. Many will fall from the faith and believe a lie… a façade. The one world leader (peace maker) and the one world prophet (religious leader) will provide answers for world peace, an answer to the Middle East crisis, freedom of religion, social justice, tolerance for all races and ethnicities, all of which is—in essence—a dark light. Pray you will not be deceived
